    Toshiba eStudio 202L exposure/CQ problem

We had someone call in earlier today with a estudio 202L. It's not a machine we normally work on so I don't know if this is a problem with that machine or not...The problem they described was- ADF copies look ok, prints look ok but copies on the glass are mostly black. It started out as black streaks when making copies on the glass. We have not looked at it yet.

just curious if any Toshiba techs had seen that problem at all.

    thanks for any info.

Haven't seen that problem on that series of machine before, but it sounds like a bad cable going to your lamp. The only thing different from ADF copies/printing and copies from the glass is the movement of the lamp/mirrors carriage. If the cable is cracked it could be shorting the lamp as it moves back and forth. I've seen that on e35 series.
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

that's funny you should mention the cable. I told them when they called in that I remembered an old Sharp copier that we used to work on back in the day, SF7300s/7320/7350/7370, would do something like what he was talking about when the harness for the exp lamp would have a problem.

I'll report back on what we find out, probably heading over there on Friday/tomorrow.

I agree with arnh79. Probably the flat cable leading to the ccd is causing this issue.

I think that if it copies from the adf are okay but not the glass. I would check to see if theres movement with the carriage first and if I'm not mistaken check to see if there is a lock underneath near the cavity of the copier. I can't remember if this model has a lock on it or not. But I have seen Toshiba's especially the smaller models have the lock and cause the problem due to what you are describing but not error out.

On smaller toshiba's, if the lock was on, it gave an error message. I can't rememer what it was. Even if the carriage doesn't move it still doesn't produce black copies. And if it doesn't move, you should hear some loud noises coming from the scanner area. When it copies from the adf, the ccd doesn't move so the flatbeed cable doesn't strech. My guess is that when the flat cable is streching, that is when you make a copy from the glass, it has moments where connection is lost throughout the cable and this is how the black banding appears. I had this issue before, but not on Toshiba's. Anyway, not on this estudio series.

copier also threw up a C260 code before we went to look at it...

(I looked up C260 and Toshibas here and there were some helpful hints about things to do as far as test modes and moving things around)

It ended up being the flat cable for the exp. lamp. Our tech checked out the cable and 1 of the strands/wires didn't have any continuity.

              thanks.
