3500C inch and a half strip of copies/prints are blank

I have a 3500c thats recently developed some issues. The machine was working fine until the toner got low. I didnt have an extra bottle on hand and the machine is fairly high use so it got pretty low before I got a new bottle installed. After I installed the bottle, the back say quarter of the dev unit, say about an inch and a half section stopped transferring toner to the belt. There are no issues with the magenta, cyan and yellow, those transfer full images without issue, only the black has the problem. I've tried cleaning, dev kit, toner path seems clear, nothing seems to make this issue go away. I dunno if it helps, but shaking the hell out of the dev unit gets me about a quarter to half an inch of the image back but it doesnt last.

Also this is in LT-R, Printing in LT the very edge prints but its finely striped, not like typical tiger stripes, the stripes have very clean edges and the density of the black that does print in the stripes looks normal.

Made some progress, seems to be an issue with charge grid/wire

Have you checked the mag roller to see it is coated correctly. I am assuming it is a smooth mag roller on the dev unit. If you think it is the charger then swap a drum unit around.

Mag roller appears smooth and appears to have toner evenly spread, i did end up swapping the drum unit, i got about 30 good copies then the problem returned, printing less and less of the image until it was back to where i started with the issue. Very frustrating. Going to swap the entire black unit with a 3500 we have at another office to see if the problem appears with a known good unit installed. If not ill see if i can find a new or working unit online somewhere.

i want to just set this machine on fire, I replaced charge grid and wire, cleaning blade and no change. replaced entire K unit with one from a working 3500c, exact same problem, put unit back into the good 3500 and it was fine. I ran 05-204 and got a value of 185, I believe minimum should be 160 so that seems good. Resorted to opening the machine up and inspecting all wire harnesses and connections, everything appears to be ok. I have checked to make sure its not the transfer belt by opening the side cover in the middle of a print job and the portion of image that is missing isnt even making it on to the drum. Could this be a memory/ram/firmware issue? section of LED's not lighting? Starting to run out of ideas. Odd that this issue began after a toner bottle change

found the problem, removed the laser unit and scraped off the foam around the black shutter, problem solved
