    fixing band estudio 455

I'm not a Toshiba tech, but I do have the manuals for this machine. There is a fixing band that screws into the ADU and loops over a pulley. This band has broken, and I know it pulls and has tension inside the machine. With this band broken will it affect the machine in anyway or is it just attached to a spring for tension for the ADU door? The only reference I can find at all in the service manual and the parts manual is unscrewing it when removing the ADU.

We've got a few in the field with broken straps. Doesn't seem to cause any problems. Only thing I would suggest is to take the strap off completely so it doesn't get caught anywhere and cause problems.
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

Yes believe it or not that band/Strap is very important. We have over 700 455 models in the field here in New York City in the public schools. A lot of the techs were just removing them when they were broken. And then we started getting jams every where. Any way long story short yes the band/Strap puts pressure on the adu to close and give pressure to those transport rollers. So Toshiba came out with a bulletin with a new make on the straps so that they would stop breaking. So yes they are very important if you don't want jamming.

Ok I guess I'll have to find one then. The call I had was for paper crinkling....well not quite crinkling but you could see where along the bottom 1/4 of the page of LT-R it was getting smooshed so to say. So now I'll have to hunt one down...thanx...

Ok as I said in the service manual it is called a fixing band and is only mentioned during removal of the ADU. Any chance you might now what it is called in the parts manual or know the part # as there is no "fixing band" in the parts manual.

I have taken them off machines without any problems, seems only to prevent the duplex/tr cover from opening to far with to much force. I leave them off. Your call though.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.
