E 451C Hard drive replacement question.

Do I have to have the same size hard drive to copy the original drive? I tried to copy the original 80 gig to a 120 gig using auto sizing, however it doesn't seem to have worked. There is nothing wrong with the original, I'm just making a back up so when it does fail. I've done this successfully with a 281C but I believe I did it with an identical 80 gig HD.
Does anyone know for sure? I'm using Copy Commander to clone the drive.

You need the same size. The machine partitions as needed and leaves the extra unused. By autosizing you are changing the default partition size and machine does not know what to do.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

Thank you. That's what I thought. I just ordered some 80's. Not as easy to find as they used to be.

I never clone these as it is easier just to partition (clear+3 power on option 3) then format (0+8 690 2 start) then reload firmware. I also tell the customer on every call about backing up address book and scans. If they do not do this then I will not re-input them with out charging them.

Have no access to firmware. Not interested in doing it either. In the used market they get what they get. It's easy to clone a drive. Takes about an hour. No need to to beg for for firmware updates. Thanks for the info.
