    WorkCentre 5855 software problem

    The device Xerox WC 5855 is booting up with a message
    device not available like on the image.

    Control panel not
    responding to any command.

    I think that this is a software issue.

    I tried to do forced upgrade via USB pen drive. On the root of drive I
    have created folder ALTBOOT and in that folder I have copied software
    of the device and created two files FORCED_UPGRADE and DISABLE_DATA_BACKUP.

    I have tried two versions of software but on both of them had the
    same error: "software upgrade error" like on the image.

    These are two versions of software that I tried to load:


    1. WorkCentre 5845/5855/5865/5875/5890 System Software

    2. WorkCentre 5845/5855/5865/5875/5890 System Software
    v071.190.103.06400 downloaded from:



    On the image is current software version on the device.

    Try a regular Altboot if that does not work replace hard drive.

      I agree. You could have a bad hard drive.

        I like to use a thumb drive with indicator LeD
        if light stays solid at start of alt boot suspect bad HDD
        if not reseat everything on main PWB in the tray and redo alt boot procedure

          That is almost always from a power surge. Reload general release software or if that does not load then install the latest SPAR release.
