Hi guys, I got a call from a new customer that is almost 100 miles away from me, with a versalink c7000. She actually brought the machine into my shop because she couldn't find anyone close to her that would look at it. The problem is, it keeps saying black toner empty, add new black toner. After spending about 40 minutes on it between phone calls and waiting on customers I found that the toner feed motor sounds like it wants to turn and makes a groaning noise, but it doesn't actually turn the black toner cartridge to add toner. I removed the motor and kept it plugged into the connector, and I'm able to hold the motor from turning with very little pressure to keep it from turning and it makes a groaning noise. My question is, is this a common problem with these machines this full color printer has a total page count of only 6,800 pages. Can I buy just the toner feed motor and where can I get one? I will try to attach pictures of the numbers that are on the motor, I couldn't find anything online that would help me, I'm not a Xerox guy, so I'm hoping you xerox gurus can help me out.

If I open front door, and I activate the front door switch, the machine starts to run and cycle and the toner motor makes noises, I pull the toner cartridge out and the drive it's not moving, it tries to, but it won't move. Again, if I cheat the front door and run the machine while it's adding toner and I remove the black cartridge, the drive at the back where the cartridge engages does not move but the motor is making noise...
I will do as suggested and clean out the toner pipe to see if that makes a difference.
It's just hard to believe that the toner pipe would be plugged up with only a total of 6,800 pages on the machine.

It was my suggestion only because last week I got the same problem with Versalink c7020. My thinking was exactly like yours. I expected dispenser B/C drive. Removed it and have not seen any problem. It was just time wasted as it is quite time consuming process. Removed dispenser BK and replaced with new and problem has been solved. After I vacuum blocked dispenser bk and install it into another machine. Problem followed so removed it again and use compressed air to clean pipe. Installed it again and no more noise coming from bk motor.
I am not saying that this cause issue too in your machine. Just sharing my experience.
If you are sure that motor make noise because is faulty then maybe check if motor for Cyan is the same. If so then swap and check if noise follows.Comment

I am not sure about vl7000 but in vl7020 it is quite easy (remove bk toner, all drums, bk developer, front door and inner cover, right cover, disconnect one conector, remove board, housing and remove dispenser bk.
Check service manual as it might be different in vl7000.
Before disassembling run bk toner motor without bk toner installed. If you still got noise remove front cover and screw holding dispenser bk. Run bk toner motor and pull a bit dispenser bk (do not insert toner bk). If noise gone then more likely pipe need cleaning.
If you still got a noise then it might not be blocked pipe.

OK... You was right.... I removed the entire black toner housing & tube assy., it was a bit tight to turn, so I cleaned it all out, spins freely now.. I reinstalled & was also able to spin the entire toner feed gear assy with the top inner cover removed. I then reinstalled the toner motor & and was running and cycling the toner down thru & it ran so long that it timed out. PROBLEM now is, I have 3 full black toner cartridges & it says to add a new black toner. No matter what bk cartridge I slid in, it won't recognize it as new & it wont run at all. Is there a way to cheat the machine to start to cycle the toner motor with one of these full cartridges, or do I have to tell the customer to ship me more new black toner because the chip on each cartridge was already used as a start up from the initial problem? I HOPE THIS MADE SENSE.Comment

Yes I understand this clearly. In my case bk toner 70% full was also not accepted because of this problem but after replacing pipe assembly machine accepted it. I know that this toner when was not accepted by the printer it was working fine in another machine.
I am not sure why yours are still not recognised while mine was accepted straight away after replacing pipe assy.
Shake toner and check if rotating.

Thats what I'm saying... It rotated for about 15 or 20 seconds, then it came up with ADD toner.. It isn't running long enough for the system to fill back up & it throws the add toner. I turn off, turn back on & slide back in one of the toners that I have & it just sits there with no running & the display says add black toner, IS IT BECAUSE THE CHIPS ON THE TONER CARTRIDGES ARE ALREADY SLID IN & USED, NOW WHEN I SLIDE ONE OF THEM IN, IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT AS A NEW TONER AND THE MACHINE JUST STAYS IN THE SAME STATE, ADD BLACK TONER.Last edited by copykat93; 5 days ago.Comment

As I mentioned above I had to use compressor to clean pipe. After first cleaning (gear moves freely too) it did not solve the problem. Another thing make sure that developer unit is installed properly. I have noticed that a few times seems to be installed properly but it wasn't (to check lift slowly orange lever until you feel the resistance. Compare it with other developer unit lever if resistance is at the same point).
I do not know how to get your bk toner back working because after second cleaning (compressed air) pipe (I removed pipe by unscrewing 4 screws) machine recognised toner which previously was recognised as empty 0%..
I am guessing that toner still not get to the developer unit.
Try again rotate toner motor by removing top cover to check if still move freely.
I also have not much experience with this series but I shared what I discovered and how I solved the issue. Machine back to the customer last Saturday and still works fine.Comment
