    XER013R00676 drums spots, lines. V180-3100

Xerox admits to the spots problem and blames it on a bad lot of toner. Their bulletin requires an entire evacuation and cleaning of all toner and developer. Has anyone tried this or found a better solution?

We have customers getting less than 10% of drum life regularly.

The lines may or may not be related. The lines form on the main charge roller and cannot be wiped off. The spots look like the drum surface is being damaged.

    Thanks in advance.

The lines on the charge roller show you the issue. What you then need to do is find the spot on the drum surface and look at it under a usb microscope. There's 3 types of damage.

Arc damage is an ugly looking crater with no light green area around the damage. Replace the drum with no further action.

Pinhole damage is a small central dot with a light green halo, possibly with some lightning style forks coming off it. Replace the drum with no further action.

Particle damage (from the bad toner batch) is like a meteor strike. Impact mark with a crater trail to the impact location. Gree halo around the impact point. This is where you do your full toner delivery cleaning procedure and replace drums/Devs and a big vac out.

Most of our drums dying early have been arc damage or pinhole damage

Thanks we were skeptical of the toner because of how long the issue has been going on and customers have gone through many toner bottles. You'd think bad toner would have been purged out.

So the answer is keep replacing drums and pray for no backorders. And hope to keep your customers.

Pretty much. Nobody has said anything but since they had the toner issue, stock for drums suffered. They seem to have sorted it but I guess they've sorted it by cutting corners on drum build quality or something because we've been burning through drums seriously fast. Most going with above 50% remaining. I was quite surprised to see one at 4% yesterday.

We haven't lost anyone because of it, we've in fact still gained because Konica can't even get toner out the doors.

Build quality? I've opened many boxes in the last year that I swear have been used. Sure a new charge roller, but the drum surface and scuffs on the plastic are a giveaway.

013R00676 drums from Ukraine have arcing problems.
