[Misc] Drum locked in Risograph RN2000ep machine

Our drum seems to be locked in the machine (Risograph RN2000ep). It worked fine until yesterday but after a paperjam we couldn't remove it, the unlocking button does work (it lights up and there is a clicking sound) but the drums seems stuck in some other way. Is there a mechanical/manual way to get the drum out?

If the Riso is similar to Ricoh (and I believe it should be) the drum drive is not in "home position". There should be an extension on the rear of the main motor that is keyed so that a spanner can fit on it (after the rear cover is removed). Turning this will allow you to get the drum into hom position and remove the drum.

If you open the scanner unit like you were installing a new master roll, there's an access door just past the master making unit where you can access the drum and turn it with your hands.
If you aren't sure about what you are doing, you will likely want to be wearing a pair of sturdy gloves for that, as you will encounter sharp edges and inky areas.
I'm kind of curious about the error code the machine displayed when this happened, as I'm not sure releasing the drum will solve the problem.

@Iowatech, Error D01-547, "install print cilinder". Found the spot you were talking about but can't seem to move it (and don't want to force it too much) Any tips?

@Polarbear, there are a bunch on gears/wheels on the back, Which one should be turned in order to get the drum back in home position?

After having seen your photos I'm with Iowatch on how to turn the drum. If all else fails you would have to follow the belts/gears that drive the drum and turn that part of the train to get the drum to turn. If it does not want to turn you might want to check that something did not break and that caused the jam.

Let's hope that your wise inclination to not force things is just making you a bit more cautious than you need to be, as it does take a bit of force to rotate the drum manually. Grasp the drum as far to it's ends as possible and try to pull it or push it. The end pieces of the drum are pretty sturdy, but they can also be rather sharp, which is why I recommend you wear a tough pair of gloves when you try this.

I just remembered something that would cause the drum not to move very much. If the drum has been treated roughly, sometimes the front bracket that holds the clamp assembly in place can get bent to the point that the clamp plate will fall out, causing the drum to stop during the printing process. That would account for the clicking noise you heard. You should still be able to manually rock the drum back and forth a little bit if that is the case.
It's been a while since I've seen that happen, so I don't remember exactly how to fix that right now. But there are a lot of smart people here that could help you out with this, and I'll probably remember what I did in the fullness of time if you aren't in a hurry.
