The Ir3300 will use the same procedure, parallel. You can upgrade the 8500/7200/105/105+ using the Fixed IP mode via Crossover cable. Just choose the network interface where you have been choosing the bi-centronics option. If you could get the latest SST, there is a assistant mode to guide you thru.

For the 3300, if you can't use a IEEE1284 parallel cable anymore you'll need to somehow get hold of a nethawk cable

Screwtape:what would be the fixed IP in the above models.I have 4.11e .Can i connect to the machine via hub/switch or should put a straight connection between laptop and machine.New laptop does not have parallel and no nethawlk cable and its a pain dragging the desktop to the machine.

For the fixed IP address check the ift files, by opening them in a text editor. One of them will probably say the fixed IP from memory.

I think it's something like 172.16.1.100 from memory. Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. You need to use an IP address 172.16.1.XXX for your computer e.g. 172.16.1.160 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

Try pinging the copier to make sure you have a connection.

            See http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/ca...html#post69572

Oh and once you've finished using SST if the copier is normally connected to a network make sure it's reconnecting fine back into the network once you're finished.

I understand your pain taking a desktop to the machine. Should try and get nethawk cable (special usb to parallel cable) if you can for machines with no fixed IP. I wouldn't mind getting one myself.

thanks bnmand.I did poke around for nethawk cable but was not able to find any , even getting the driver proved tough unless ofcourse if you have a canon login available.
Anyway i think by network it would do .

You can used a crossover cable directly connected to the machine, no hub or switch is needed.
Fixed ip mode. Power up the machine pressing on the 1&7 keys this will boot the machine with an IP address 172.16.1.1.

Set up your laptop with an IP address of 172.16.1.101 in your network properties. Then load SST.

All new iR's can be enable in fixed ip mode, ir3300 can't be used with fixed ip mode, The Ir3300i or 3320i can be used with fixed ip mode. Ir5020,6020,7200,8500,105,105+ can be used with fixed ip mode.

For old copiers that can use fixed IP mode, but don't come standard with a NIC, I recommend the following:
                  1. Stock up on Network Printer Kits whether from Canon (if your local Canon parts supplier still has some in stock), ebay or from old irreparable machines that still have functioning printer kits. Make sure you label the kits properly so you know which is which (if they aren't already). If you pull a kit out of an IRXXXX, put it in another IRXXXX where IRXXXX represents the same model copier.
                  2. When you next need to use the SST on a machine that can used fixed IP but doesn't have a NIC insist on installing a printer kit. You can say that it will be better for them in the long run as it enables you to provide better, faster service on the machine in the future (which is true as carrying around a desktop and setting it up and packing it up is time consuming), not to mention the networking capabilities that it adds to the copier from which the user could well benefit considerably.

You may even want to stock up on Printer Kits for copiers that can't use Fixed IP to do a HDFormat. You may find that the limited Fixed IP in service mode is enough for some problems.
