sounds like either one of the springs is broke on the
    PAPER PICK-UP MOUNT ASSEMBLY

or one of the FB6-2778 ratchets is broken.

    very common

I have attempted to get in and repair these in the past, and found it to be no fun at all. If you have access to a machine in the warehouse, you could get your "organ donor" parts there. Otherwise I would advise that you replace the paper feed asm as a unit. At least have one as a backup, should you want to try to repair this issue. Bottom lifters are supposed to be fairly straightfoward to repair,,, but my luck has always presented the upper cassette lifter as the culprit...

              have fun!

Make sure you tell the customer / user to stop slamming the paper trays shut, that's usually the cause of the damage.

                  Nick,
I've worked on this model alot. The 2 parts that wear out eventually is the Gear Ratchet (FB6-2778-000) and the Claw Lifter Arm (FB6-2789-000). Replace them at the same time when you do, it avoids having to go back in there again. The parts don't cost alot it's just time consuming but once you get the hang of it you can do it in under 40min.
