Canon imagePASS-C2 (ir C3220) - Does not register on network

An imagePASS-C2 printer controller has suddenly disappeared from its network.

Neither the printer driver on the network's computers, nor Fiery Command Workstation 5.1 can access the controller.

It does not register on the network's router, but Cisco's (PureNetwork) Network Magic Pro utility shows the network printer as being online !

Surprsingly, Canon's Network Scangear manages to get through and use the ir C3220's scanner...

I have changed all EtherNet cables (straight and crossover) for new cables without any success.

I am truly stumped; any suggestion would be very welcome.

Have you tried rebooting the Fiery? Not to be insulting but the switch is on the box that hangs on the back of the copier. Its fairly common to have to reboot those from time to time.

You can also try connecting directly with a laptop if you have one for trouble shooting purposes.

Of course the Fiery has been rebooted numerous times.

However, there is no switch on the box; it powers down when you power down the printer. It also shuts down when you pull the power cord from the box; I also tried this.

No, but just in case the router's firewall might be on, I did a factory reset on it.

Do you mean a direct EtherNet connection with a crossover cable ? I'll try that.

BTW, Thank you to all responders for their suggestions.

Think this one through: An IR 8500 with a C chip is connected to an M1 Fiery. You can scan and print.

You can bypass the fiery and plug into the copier and be able to scan but not print.

So scanning does not mean the Fiery is alive or the ip set properly.

                I have done this.

                  Canon imagePASS-C2 (ir C3220) - Dipswitches & USB connectors

Can anyone provide information about the functions of those two dipswitches to the left of the LED display.

These are currently set to OFF (i.e. they are at the bottom).

What about those 2 USB connectors ? I can't find any info about these either.

Devices Falling off the Network :
The most common reason for this issue has always been a duplicate IP address within the same network. Once this has been completely ruled out, these other alternatives could be considered:

In Network environments where a Cisco Switch is involved, one approach could be to set the PortFast feature on a Cisco switch. This has the property of negating the effects caused on IPX/SPX and AppleTalk protocols regarding the Spanning Tree Protocol. There have not been any observations so far of the Spanning Tree Protocol causing a problem on TCP/IP networks.
There have been a few reported incidents where a device appears to fall off a TCP/IP network and is not related to the Spanning Tree Protocol although the symptoms of the problem appear to be the same. In this case, you may isolate your device from the switch or router by adding a small inexpensive hub with no intelligence between the device and switch. Alternatively, you can try locking the switch port and the Canon device at the same network speed. This can eliminate any auto-negotiation issues.

Have you tried it with the crossover to your laptop yet?

                        Problem resolved

We solved the problem with our imagePASS-C2 controller not registering an IP address.

It indeed was due to an address conflict with a recently installed NAS which only resolved itself after completely re-initializing our router.

                        Thank you for everyone's help.
