Customer had a bad toner spill down the front side of machine (cap came off toner bottle). They cleaned up most of it but tray #3 didn't lift when I got there. After I was done (part call - replaced thermistors and cleaned rest of toner spill) tray #4 also stopped lifting. I've vac'd, blew out and generally cleaned both feed assm's and lifter motor assm's with no luck. I'm thinking of ordering new lifter motors. Any other ideas?

i would think the paper detect sensors are full of toner/ trays will not lift if sensors are detecting a false paper present signal**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.** -
Did you ask if they were working before the toner spill?Canon Copier Repair Service. Sales, Parts & Toner. NYC/NJ area. Contact:East Coast Imaging Solutions,LLCComment

All cassettes were working before the toner spill. I did clean the tray detect sensor and paper detect sensor in both cassette feed assm's. While I was cleaning the toner spill I did see a lot of toner directly on the connectors for the lifter motors as well as the lifter motors themselves. The entire area was pretty much covered with toner.
I didn't have a manual with me at the time or I would have checked the I/O service mode to see if the signal for the sensors was changing. I will do that on my next visit.
I didn't know if there may be some type of calibration for the lifter units. I did see some settings in the service mode for high and low level lifter settings but I have not seen this on any older Canon models that I am more familiar with.Comment

u need to focus on those connectors & motors / if u can soak motors in >
Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol 91%/ will not harm
u also have to clean those connectors thoroughly**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**Comment

Follow-up: Checked sensors in I/O mode - all working correctly. Cleaned lifter motors and connectors extremely thoroughly with a can of electronics cleaner - now one motor will work in both the cass 3 and 4 location. The other is apparently dead. I'll order one new motor and that will ctake care of it. Thanks.Comment
