The network scanner to be used with the ScanGear Tool enables scanning with
    Network ScanGear.

***** No scanner is selected during Network ScanGear installation, so this
    operation is required before use.

Click the Start button, then select Programs – Network ScanGear
Select the scanner to be used by either of the following methods.
    - Click the Discover button to search for scanners on the network and display the results in
the list of scanners. Click the scanner to be used in the list, then click the Select button.
    - Click the IP Address button to display the IP Address dialog box. Enter the scanner IP
address in the boxes, then click the OK button.

    IMPORTANT

    • With Network ScanGear, a scanner can only be used if it is in the same subnet (network with
the same network ID) as the computer in which Network ScanGear is installed. When
searching for scanners, only scanners within the subnet will appear in the list. When you
specify a scanner IP address, it is not possible to specify an IP address outside the subnet.
    NOTE
    • After selecting the scanner, you can click the Test button to check that the selected scanner
    can be used.

      Yes,i did like this.
After testing it says "The selected scanner is available for scanning".
After selecting scanner in the list,i click on select and nothing happens.
I have tried 3 different versions of Network Scangear and nothing at last.

Canon Network Scangear is just a utility to setup the driver, you can't actually scan anything with Canon Network Scangear. Open a program like Word and as long as you have the MS photo editor plug in you can click Insert-> picture-> from scanner. Select Network scangear as your scanner and hit scan, the Canon TWAIN driver will come up and you can change the DPI/exposure/contrast/margins or if it scans from the glass or ADF.

If you select Network Scangear as your scanner and when you hit scan and nothing happens try turning off your firewall.
If you select Network Scangear as your scanner and when you hit scan you still can't scan see this thread.

As noted by DLP, you would need to use a application program, word, adobe acrobat standard or professional.

My favourite program to use is Adobe Standard. You can scan straight to a PDF, get OCR performed, get the page automatically rotated up the right way (if it has typed text on it) etc.

If you know how you can work out what registry settings etc. need to be set and include it in a login script or in group policy or something. Check to see that Network ScanGear is installed and install the relevant files. This can be useful as each user that logs onto a machine has to setup ScanGear separately. However with a script this is setup automatically!
