What is the best way to scan with a c5185 With a H1 fiery

Hi, i what to do a lot of scanning on windows and mac, and i like the way mailboxes work on the copier. But as far as i know there are two types of mailboxes. one for the copier and one for the Fiery. I can scan onto the mailboxes on the copier and if i go to fiery Remote Scan i cant get my scans off, why is that?
Also how can i get my scans from the copier's mailbox.

Does anybody have suggestions what the best way to scan for me would be? I would like to use on windows and mac.

    Thanks

If you have a SEND tab on the display, you can scan-and-send to your computer, when connected via a network cable. Are you familiar with network connections?

Hi, yes, I am using this printer on network, and I have a scan tab. The reason I dont like this is we are using dhcp on our network, so if a computer gets a new address i have to update that address on the copier. And also I wouldn't prefer to share a drive on a Mac because if someone knows the password of the user they can access all the files.

When you type the address of the computer use the name rather than the IP-address and let the DNS handle it. Or, you can also browse to the same computer from the copier and that way it does not matter if the IP address changes. For security reason, you should not keep confidential files on a shared folder, move them out.

Thats how i scanned with my older printer, but i kinda like how the scan to mailbox works. but i cant get it off the mailbox to a computer
So is the scan tab still the best way to do it?

If you want to get the images off the Canon mailbox you need JBig viewer plug in to see and save the image.
Fiery remote scan is probably your best solution.

Can you elaborate more on why remote scan isn't working?
When you use the Fiery remote scan try using the mailbox # instead of its name.

You don't have a send tab. Didn't you post before with this kind of issue. If you have a fiery then the fiery gets set up with a IP address not the copier and you can reserve that IP address even if your running DHCP on your server. If you have universal send then you can also scan to email if your worried about sercurity. With the Jbig plugin you can view them, which to me is a horrible viewer and you won't be able to print them from that viewer.

When i go into settings on mailbox on copier and configure my mailboxes (with or without passwords) and scan to that mailbox, that works. (are there two types of mailboxes, one for scanner and one for fiery?) should i be able to get my from the copiers mailbox to my computer with Fiery Remote scan?

When i click change mailbox and enter either the mailbox name or mumber and my password it gives me an error that says :Can't open mailbox "name of mailbox" Please verify the mailbox name and password. And i know my password better than fiery remote can does

                What am i doing wrong

TechKat helped me enable the scan tab in settings, now its here. Ya the printer name stays the same, but if i enable file sharing on a mac and someone knows my user and password they can access my entire harddrive

Color imageRUNNERs C2880 / C3380 / C4080 / C4580 / C5180 for example, DO NOT require JBIG Viewer to view documents stored in the device mailboxes over the RUI.
On these devices documents are stored as TIFF files and when you click on the link to view the document it will open in the default application in which TIFF files are viewed on your PC.

Yes, there are 2 different mailboxes, one on the copier HDD and one on the Fiery HDD. Internet explorer + jbig + copier IP address will get you to the copier mailbox. Remote scan + Fiery IP address will get you to the Fiery mailbox. I agree with Screwtape, jbig is a horrible viewer and if I remember right can only save 1 page at a time as a tiff (or JPEG?) and PDF is not an option.

It sounds like you are using your MAC's password to access the mailbox on the Fiery? Just use the password (if any) for the Fiery mailbox when you setup the mailbox. I don't think you need file sharing turned on your Mac to use remote scan. When you scan it in at the copier it is put on the Fiery HDD (mailbox) and then at your computer remote scan pulls it out of the Fiery HDD for you to save there.
