Had a control panel with a touch screen that works on the edges but stopped responding to touch in the center area of the screen. Went to the warehouse and turned on one of the many 5070 and 5570 machines we have and verified that it had a working display. Then I removed the control panel from that machine and installed my bad control panel & lo and behold the panel had no display. Just out of curiosity I reinstalled the good panel I had just removed and no display either. I had turned off power from the switch on the lower right side of copier before I removed said panel. I'm thinking that I should have unplugged copier from outlet and that just turning off the power switch was not enough and consequently damaged the display. Any thoughts on this ? As always input is much appreciated. In my understanding there is no difference in the displays on these models and should be interchangeable.

Ok here is an update on this problem.....swapped out control panel from other copiers in our warehouse..........the panels are not interchangeable..........the copier must know what panel has been assigned to it by serial number or some other way in which it identifies its control panel assy . This leaves me with a dilema. If I order a brand new panel from Canon the machine will probably not recognize the new panel either. The part # is the same for all the 120v copiers in this series. (FM2-3088). Would appreciate any comments or ideas on installing a new panel. The service manual addresses disassembly but no install procedure for a new panel. Again....We have 6 IR 5570 units and I have swapped the panels from them & each panel only works in the copier it came with. Very strange that they cannot be swapped.sigpicAnything can be made to work if you fiddle with it long enough- San Diego Copier Repair.comComment

Never heard of an issue with swapping control panels/ unless a bypass connector is installed on them ( like for use with an Equitrac)/
Control PANEL ROM / version of control panel stored in CPU PCB. / but would not effect detection of swap.
there are display controls in Copier>Option>Body- also should not effect swap
quick ?/ are these Government Machines ????**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**Comment

I never have heard of an issue swapping panels either & I,ve got a lot of years doing this. Its really a weird one. But trust me ....thats whats going on.....no gov machine ....no mod connectors for options...with this model series you cannot swap the control panels. I'm sure you can swap other parts like touch panel etc...but if you have to replace the whole panel you'll be stuck like me. Appreciate you posting so quickly. Sending you rep power for your effort. thanks, still don't see how Canon can control a serial number for the control panel/ do they ask for the machine serial number when u try to order/ if so ,these models must have some connection with the Counter Pcb.**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**Comment

I have not tried to order a new panel yet from canon (expensive) but the interesting thing is that there are error codes the copier generates in the event of mismatched serial numbers from any pcb. No error code showing up...just no display. When you turn on the copier no status bar displays & no canon logo. You can see the touch panel is backlit but no display whatsoever but you can hear the copier warm up . If you return the panel to its origional machine it fires up just fine. Checked canon support website & found nothing on control panel install issues on this model but you may be correct..........they may tell you something when part is ordered. I am trying to avoid ordering a new panel though. A quick note....I do realize the new part # for the non 5570/6570 machines is FM2-9075 but all the machines in this series when you remove the panel have a sticker showing the orig part # of FM2-3088 right on the panel on the right mounting bracket so I don't think its a part # issue. Maybe it is paired to the machine with that info being maintained on the control panel cpu pcb assy?Last edited by blazebusiness; 05-20-2010, 04:37 PM.sigpicAnything can be made to work if you fiddle with it long enough- San Diego Copier Repair.comComment

the only thing i can see is in the control panel unit there is a CONTROL PANEL CPU PCB ASSEMBLY/ as i posted before the Panel ver.Rom is stored there/
unless the Serial Number pcb. is somehow linked to Panel on this model,**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**Comment

I'm thinking along the same lines..............thanks again. I'm going to review schematics to bone up on how panel interfaces with other pcb'ssigpicAnything can be made to work if you fiddle with it long enough- San Diego Copier Repair.comComment

I would check the main controller.
There has never be a issue with replacing or swapping control panels.
If you swap a working one, chances are its not the control panel.
