ir 2870 S1 finisher stack slide chattering

working on this machine in the shop getting it ready to be installed (refurb), at power up the stack slide attempts to go back to the home position and then makes a chattering like its binding up or something for 2 seconds then stops. machine doesnt blow an error code or jam and it functions normaly durring stack ejection but chatters again returning for next stack. I took it apart to expose the home position sensor and the 2 cam gears. it doesnt look like with the sliders back it reaches the HP sensor. the two gears are notched and tabbed so they are aligned properly, there are no broken teeth. Any ideas guys? is there a belt tensioner? should the flag on the black gear be in the stack slider HP sensor when they are all the way back?

I ran into this years ago, it is how I figured out how to disassemble this finisher, O.J.T. ;-)

I took the thing down to get to the two gears in the bottom, and cleaned the bottom surfaces of the gears. I lubed up the pivots and gear bottoms with a very light grease. As I reassembled it, I cleaned and greased the pins that ride in the gripper/slide bracket, as well as the long slot in the bottom of that slide. No more noises after that. As I recall, mine was binding enough to pop error codes...
