The toner is the same: Non-magnetic Negative (S-toner) but the chip is different. I have done it before, in emergencies, and it works OK.

the Developer & Toner in a new DRUM Cartridge has a set start value / when u mess with it by adding toner for a 5185 to a 3200/ DRUM Cartridge, your asking for trouble/ unless u plan to change DRUMS very soon and use the correct toner in them ,it will start to exhibit over-toning on long copy runs/ drop on ITB Unit-cause a mess/all of these tricks were tried in a Canon Engineering Department, in which I worked for six months.

every tech knows Toner is same/ it is the Developer (carrier) that is different.
