ir 5870 dadf reads jam at start

Got an ir c5870 DADF goes dead to remove jam when your press start. Open cover on DADF, no paper, close top lid, still says jam present.

Checked feeder in service mode and sen check, motor check, rollers, etc etc all come out OK!

Removed black plastic cover checked connection to sensor was a few pieces of paper under there removed them reseated black plastic - still goes to paper jam in feeder. Have to reboot copier to get rid of jam message but goes right to jam when you try to feed.

    Any advice appreicated

A jam code would be useful. Post it & will comment further. If it is code 0094 the prism may be out of position. See photo below for location of sensor prism

No code in service mode jam history? If that feeder shows a jam there must be a code my friend. Let me know.

          Have you check good enough.

Initialize the feeder under service mode and reboot, see if that helps.

            initialize procedure

that would be service mode --> feeder --> function ---> ...? or is it under adjust? I am not in front of the copier and not real familiar with this model I am just trying to someone a favor for free

maybe screwtape means FEEDER>FUNCTION>SENS-INT...that sometimes fixes this type of problem.

Actually---that was some good advice you gave Screwtape....I had all but forgotten that in service mode. Good Job.
It'll be interesting to see if thats the fix or the prism.

It would help to have the jam code.

I'm pretty sure I know what they are, but others might not.

                        Glad your up though.
