Canon IR6000 uneven density front to back and background with feeder

I noticed an uneven density from front to back. The back being lighter in density.
This was not noticed by the customer. What he noticed was the background
on the copy through the feeder.
I'm not quite sure what is causing this, I have check the dv unit, even coating of toner and collars
sorta clean. I cleaned 'em. The drum was polished 6 months ago when I replaceld the coronas.
The chargers looked clean except the pre-transfer, I may have a scraper for it. I cleaned the erase
lamp that was not dirty. Dusted the optics. It stopped long enough for me to get down the road
about 5 miles. I hate when that happens.
The feeder appears to sit flush with the glass. One other thing, the original recognition off the glass
    is not working.
My customer hand scanned 200 pages so he could run the job. He ran it all and said it came out good.
He had some old photos for a year book. Class of 1959 from the looks of the people.
I will have to see this machine next week.
Has anyone else ever seen these symptoms on the IR 6000?

    Thanks

The white plate could be dirty.

The lamp could be going weak.

You can try doing a CCD.

When you mean the original recognition off the glass isn't working, its not reading the paper size correctly.

How does the internal pages from service mode look, lets say a PG5.

Screwtape, I will check the white plate again. If the lamp is weak, why would it only show up when using the feeder?

I seem to remember a tech replacing the slit glass for a similar issue. To determine if it is due to wear on the slit glass adjust Copier->Adjust->STRD-POS. I'd go +/-10 and see if it makes any difference.

How does a test page 5 (halftone) look?

Kinda off topic, but I remember installing a binder minder on a copier once. Regular copies with text looked fine but glossy photos looked like crap....and 80% of what they copied were photos I soon realized just how sensitive CCD's are while trying to adjust it so the photos looked OK. After adjusting everything the only thing that worked for the glossy photos was putting a couple books on top to keep it perfectly flat. If there was the slightest wrinkle or curve it would show up as either a white or dark cloudy area on the copy.
