    [CQ] Tech Tips_imageRUNNER C5180 Series

    TIPS:
    imageRUNNER C5180 Series

1.Symptom: 2nd Side Image Registration is off: Lead and Trail
Registration moves when doing 2-sided printing/copying.
When printing or copying high density color products and
using 2-sided printing, the 2nd side lead and trail registration
varies causing the image to go off the page.
    Solution: REG-SPD (SERVICE MODE (Level 2) > COPIER >
OPTION > BODY>REG-SPD: "Fine adjustment (Plain paper) of
the Registration Roller speed”) is a new service mode setting that
has been introduced to improve Second Side Mis-Registration
    image shift.
Execute the fine adjustment of Registration Roller speed in
    this mode to improve:
The second side of a printed or copied document has shifted
out of specification (2.5 +/- 2.0mm leading edge margin on the
    2nd side). Setting values>5 to + 5 (Default factory setting/ value
after RAM clear: 0) Increasing (decreasing) the setting value by
"1" accelerate (decelerate) the delivery speed of the roller by
"0.5%". (Example: Changing the value from 0 to - 2 decelerates
    the speed by 1.0 %.)

    2.
    imageRUNNER C5180 Series
Symptom: Error Code E007-0001 or E007-0002 are displayed
    and cannot be cleared.

Error Code E007-0001 refers to the inability of the upper
fixing belt to properly align itself according to the upper alignment
sensor. Error Code E007-0002 refers to the inability of the
lower pressure belt to properly align itself according to the lower
alignment sensor. Both of these codes can be attributed to badly
worn/stripped 14T Pinion Gears and/or their mating Fan Gears.
Solution: Replace both 14T Pinion Gears with their metal replacements,
part number FU7-0742-000 and also check their mating
Fan Gears for wear and replace them if necessary. Part numbers
for the Fan Gears are shown below. Once replaced,
install the fixing assembly and be sure to clear the error codes:
    (COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR>ERR) and recycle power.
Once the fixing assembly is warmed up and the copier is at a ready
    state, perform the following: COPIER>FUNCTION>
FIXING>FX-UHP-S and FX-LHP-S. Both must show OK!

u need to do that FIX UNIT procedure for all iRC5180 series MODELS/
when u install a new or refurbed fix unit

remove the fix unit and inspect belt position/

              try it/

check the top belt sensor wires unit--& sensors
they don't change those sensor units/ could be burnt out

the lower bearings are never replaced on refurb
                  units
look for a black band on lower belt

may have a broken tooth on small brown gear/
to inspect u need to remove side drive units

Check the drive gears [1], [2], and [3] in the fixing assembly side for breakage; if any of them are broken, replace it with a new one.

of u get NG on first procedure/ something is wrong

By executing the service mode, the alarm code is closed and the total rotation time is cleared.

                      - Service Mode COPIER>FUNCTION>FIXING>FX-LHP-S (Pressure belt displacement control auto home position search)

The position of the belt is detected with the fixing (pressure) belt position sensor, and the rotational directions of the fixing (pressure) displacement control motors (M28/M29) are determined by the detected position and the shifting direction of the belts.
By driving the fixing (pressure) displacement control motor (M28/M29), shift the position of the tension roller in the 5 levels. *1

If the belt shifts toward the front
(getting away from the standard position), shift the belt to the center by rotating the fixing (pressure) displacement control motor
in a clockwise direction and then shift the fixing (pressure) tension roller to upward (level 1 (upper) / level 2 (upper)).

On the other hand, if the belt shifts toward the rear (getting away from the standard position), shift the belt to the center by rotating the fixing (pressure) displacement
control motor (M28/M29) in a counter clockwise direction and then shift the fixing (pressure) tension roller to downward (level 1 (lower) / level 2 (lower)).

By figuring out the HP with the belt HP sensor (PS31/PS30) and driving the fixing (pressure) displacement control motor (M28/M29) with the specified pulse from the HP, the position of the tension roller (5 levels) is remained constant.
If the tension roller does not shift to the center although setting it at the level 2 (upper or lower), it shifts to the belt full displacement temporary avoidance mode
(see the belt temporary displacement avoidance mode).
*1: The composition of 5 levels is as follows: standard position, level 1 (lower), level 2 (lower), level 1 (upper), and level 2 (upper).
*1: The 5-level consists of the standard position, the level-1 (down), the level-2 (down), the level-1 (up), and the level-2 (up).

Thanks techcat for all this info, i have tried everything you have suggested regarding home positioning of the belts, i am very familiar with this procedure as stated in the tech publication under section 8a, unfortunatly no warranty from dsn, these machines love to burn fusers, there are only 20000 pages on new fuser and 140000 on this copier

my last suggestion is to check the small connector for the HP sensor array/

When u did the manual adjust of the belt to center position/
which way did the belt shift when error popped up ??

also when u did manual adj./ did printer pop error when powered up ??
or after this procedure ??? -

Is the belt actually displaced? I have seen problems with the connector for the drawer assembly.
