Image Press C1 - digital line issue

    hi there,

was installing an Imagepress C1 today and have a digital line problem.
the line appears in exactly the same place.
It is in the feed direction and is from edge to edge ...IE also outside the printable area.
it apeears from copying from glass, internal test prints and printing from rip.
the line is ultra thin and appears in 4 colours when doing a colour print/copy and only black on a black copy/print.
The line appears on a blank copy/print.
the odd thing was it wasn't occuring when doing an autograd for the 1st 10 tries or so, but then started on them aswell.
we decided to take out interface board that we installed(making it a printer) and put back orignal copier board in Main Controller. this did not have any effect.
drum looks fine, dust glass no dust or hair.
looking like possible signal failure of some sort.
any1 have any ideas or has possibly come across this issue please send me a reply.
thanks for taking the time to read this.

    Not optical.

I am not familiar with an 'Image Press C1', but I can help narrow your searching. If the line appears on self prints & calibration pages, it can only be caused by a few things.
    1) Exposure: Laser contaminated by a hair or fiber or LED Assy with a single bad LED. Non-image areas are still written by the laser/LED assy.
    2) Image Processing Circuitry: Internal test patterns are generated on whatever type of image processing PWB this has.
    3) And the hardest to find: A hair or fiber contaminant (I've seen an old piece of corona wire do this) anywhere in contact with the drum or developing cylinder, dragging along the surface of the drum leaving a nice trail of toner, even in non-image areas.

My best advice is to examine every part within 1'' of the drum (or drums).
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Laser unit

Just a bit of advice for this machine. Done the training course on these. One thing to look out for on these is the soft foam under the laser unit when you remove them. You can remove them (laser) by taking the scanner off or from the left side panel. My advice take it out from the top as its very hard to see the foam and feel if you catch/snag the foam from the left side - yes its longer but if you fancy taking the machine apart again after spending 30 minutes taking it apart because a tiny piece of foam has fallen in the slit glass......

              training

Nope, I.Webber. Definetly know his stuff and teaches a good course. I'm more at home on Ricoh, Sharp and kyocera but have the odd canon colour like the fantastic colour press and not so good 3220. 3 other tips for you. 1 beware of the heaters if you take them apart, the hot roller will drop and smash the lamps unless you take them out first because of the weight. 2. If the customer complains of quality issues e.g. colours not right - double check the fiery settings first. The settings on these can make a massive difference and if the customer has changed the settings saves you looking for a fault when you dont have to. 3. calibration - has to be done with the eye tool supplied with the machine, dont bother callibrating the scanner just the printer side will do.
