    Canon iR5000 printing

I have a wierd issue with a Canon iR5000 copier. It copies fine but jams in the fuser area of the printer when printing. A sheet of paper is crumpled up in the fuser area (open the fuser cover by pressing the green handle and opening up the fuser paper guiding mechanism - the one with the fuser paper picking fingers).

The copier shows a paper jam on the display panel on the right side of the machine. The problem seems to be a jam in the fusre area - there are usually several sheets of paper in the paper path feeding the fuser and output area of the machine.

It only seems to happen when printing and works fine when copying.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Post the Jam code displayed in Diagnostics. Also, after reading your description, you may have an issue with your duplex assembly. If the printer is set for face down printing, the sheets traverse down to the duplex assembly to be flipped after exiting the fuser rollers. If you have broken teeth on the gate in the duplex assembley or the gate isn't actuating, you'll get jams everytime. Check the jam History first to give us an idea of when the paper is actually stopping.

Face Down versus Face Up Delivery

I'm with Copy Guy. This sounds like a case of prints (only) inverting before exiting. Worn guides in the duplexer can do this. Also the mylars guides & rollers in the fuser claw area. The machine I had that was doing this drove me nuts. It had 2M copies. I found a donor corpse with only 750k & took everything left of the fuser. Problem gone. So what are those jam codes?
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yeah, 2 Mil on one of those boxes brings a whole host of problems. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't make them so hard to take apart. you walk in on one of those kinds of problems and it leaves you cursing.

Thanks for the tips. I wil go back tothe machine and get the jam codes and look at the areas mentioned. Luckily, we have 2 of the same machines at the same location and can swap parts to debug.

I will post the jam codes when I retrieve them.

            Thanks!
