    IR2870 Waste Toner Location

    Hi Guys,

Our copier is giving us an error code relating to the waste toner catridge. I'm not a printer engineer but I can use a screwdrive allthough i can't find the thing to empty it. Would one of you guys be nice enough to tell me how to get into it please?

    Cheers
    James

it is behind the front cover..screw upper left corner..if you have a finisher on your have to remove a plug on the top of finisher to get to it... then one in the middle of cover next to the toner bottle...

In some cases, after you have removed the waste toner box and emptied it you also have to clean the sensors that is detecting the waste toner error, as sometimes after removing the waste toner from the waste toner box and putting it back in, the error message comes back on again.
Usually the message can go out by itself, but if not then turning off and turning on the machine should do the job.

Never realized there were so many variations of the iR2870. The ones I have worked on all have a "plug" covering the screw on the top left of the front cover - finisher/no finisher whatever. Easy to miss the plug as people look for the plug on the cover itself rather on top of it (in the gray area). The other screw is to the right of the toner bottle as mentioned above (in the center of that gray square cover).

Take care when you empty the waste toner bottle as it is a mess if you have never done it before. Make sure you clean the outside of the bottle so you do not get spillage into system. I can only guess at the issues if you dump waste toner into the developer-drum-paper path areas.

The waster toner full message should go away by itself as it is not a "real" (real?) error code but an error message. If it doesn't, after turning the machine off, unplug it for a few minutes and then plug it back in.

I agree it would be a better idea to get a tech though. When we empty the waste toner we also check other items that seem to have issues around the same time (transfer roller, paper feed rollers, drum, etc).
