    ITB torn on C3220

    HI,

I've got a transfer belt that is ripped up, and wondering what can cause that type of catastrophic failure. It looks like there was stress near the outside edge and it tore from there. Now it is in two or three pieces, depending upon where you look at it.

A drum was replaced a while back. Could that have caught the transfer belt when it was slid into the machine? Or, could an over-zealous jam clearing damage the belt?

Just curious if I need to be checking for other problems before replacing the belt and cleaner.

    Thanks!
    Jim

Ive had it happen a couple times. I think the tech that went out didnt install it straight. Not sure of any adjustments to fix it. I just replace them.

one other thing to check is the red dot(marking on the surface) Pg 4-64 service manual
goes down..when you are putting them in book says it does not matter but we think it does...

          ITB 3220

There is a tech service release on this. Canon sells a kit that has some alignment pins to fix an alignment problem with the ITB. I'm sure a canon tech will post the bulletin.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions!

It still seems odd to have the belt tear itself up, when the office staff reported everything was running great the day before. The test prints run after replacing the black drum were all good...registration, coverage, etc.

Shouldn't there have been some warning signs before it went?

              Thanks again,
              Jim Hansen

I dont think drum can make that damage.

Prob not related in any way but .... we had the ITB on a C1 get the same type of tearing you described. Since it was a machine in our front office we were able to pin down that there was a bad paper jam and the person that cleared it was quite forcefull.
