    [Misc] 4555 not sending fax

I have a customer who has a mfp4555 printer with a fax module. It receives but can't send. Tried a fax mod, and a firmware upgrade. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction, or has perhaps seen this before. Thanks!

On one, I was successful with initializing the fax. On another I replaced the fax board. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

For what it is worth, I'd be as sure as possible the signal from the phone line was adequate for faxing before I tried any adjustments or replaced any parts.
If you've never seen this before, you'd be surprised how many times that a bad phone line is the cause of fax problems.

The simple checks of using a handset to call your phone and the reverse should say something. Is a prefix required to dial out e.g 9 and then the number.

When i was out in the field, i had a laptop with a modem that i knew of course was in working order. i had a fax program that could send and receive from my pc and actually see the signals simulated on the program. In this was, you can determine quickly if it is a line issue and then look at the machine side of things.

What is the symptoms or error message ?, must be one.

Agreed! I'd bet dollars to donuts it has something to do with the line / hardware and not the machine. Have seen this exact scenario twice in the last several months (not with this particular brand). Plug in another known working machine, when it fails, have them contact their provider, and BILL THEM for your time

A prepared tech carries a cheap handset phone to test for fax issues. I have replaced the fax board on an hp this year. It was the smallest fax board I had ever seen.

If they have internet service through the phone lines, you could just be looking at a bad filter. I've had fax machines where I put on 2 DHL filters to get it working right.

                Re: 4555 not sending fax

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I used to have a cheap hand phone, but of course, it got purged after a recent move and not having used it for a few years. The device receives but doesn't send, and that threw me for a bit, and this time around I brought a small hand phone and tested the line. There was a lot of interference on that line. I have replaced a few fax mods on HP, whereas I've only had one ever on a Canon in almost twenty years.

I'll be keeping this phone around the trunk for next time. Usually I just dial back and forth from my cell to the device, which for a standard fax hookup is fine. They have a more complicated set up there, so that wasn't a true test.

                Thanks again!
