Yesterday, a customer brought in a HP ColorLaserjet Pro m251 with similar symptomps, I replaced one of the cartridges (the yellow one in my case) and the noise whas gone.

Are OEM or aftermarket carts being used? Have seen and heard ALL KINDS of issues with aftermarket carts.

Agreed. Could be a toner cartridge. On these models, there's no "Disable Cartridge Check". You must have all carts installed for the unit to come to ready.

Take one cartridge out at a time and close door, machine will cycle for a brief time, one at a time to find out which one is making the noise, but, I also would say it's a cartridge problem.

I have had M451's (which are the same engine) make a squealing noise in the secondary transfer roller assembly.
I replaced that assembly and ...fixed.
