HP T2300 MFP - Solution for poor scans, lines through scans

A customer of mine with a HP Designjet T2300 MFP was complaining about their scans looking dirty and there being lines through the scans. Naturally I suspected the camera glass being dirty. When I inspected the scanner, I couldn't see anything on the cameras (what HP refers to as the CIS Elements.) I asked if they tried calibrating it. The customer had no idea about how to calibrate it, and after a brief hunt through various cabinets, we found the tube with the rolled up calibration sheet in it.

I ran the calibration process and bingo, the scans were now clean as could be. I didn't expect this and was quite pleasantly surprised. So was the customer.

    This was pre-calibration.

Had to replace one of the CIS units on the same model. I also ordered the calibration sheet just to have it. To my surprise, the calibration procedure was in a PIN protected menu item! I thought that was strange.

That's odd; the calibration menu option was in the regular user-area menu when I did it.. under Image Quality Maintenance, I believe.
