Hp laserjet Pro 400 jam error

Message ( paper jam in tray 3 ) . There is no tray 3 . I have had a similar message on a Hp where updating machine firmware solved the problem . I had the customer download drivers and firmware but the latest version 2015.
Just wondering if anyone else had seen this problem .

How many trays does it have? If it has 2 or 1 plus the manual feed tray, check if there is a relay sensor in the bottom tray on the paper path for if there was an additional tray.

It has one cassette or( tray 2 ). bypass or hp calls it ( tray one ) .

These stack-able systems have the jam detect for tray 3 built into tray 2. They have been known to get dirty or fail and say there is a jam when there isn't.
