Hi all,
I have a M451dn that's about 6 years old but it is rarely used. According to the web GUI, there's been 4586 total impressions.
Suddenly, when the unit should be picking up paper, I'm getting a "Jam in tray 1" message. This is happening when the printer is configured to print to tray 2 or when trying to even print internal service reports. When I check all crevices for paper or jams, there are none. I'm positive of that. Additionally, pressing OK does not prompt the printer to check and continue. It seems to be locked up after the message, requiring a power cycle.
Sometimes, but not all, after the power cycle, it will spit out a sheet of paper that it picks up from tray 2.
Sometimes, when not in error state, I can drop tray 1 and put paper in it, and print to tray 1 and it works OK.
I'm not new to printers, basic repairs, or troubleshooting, but the sleuthing I've done on the web indicates this is a common problem but not something I can resolve? Is it time to ditch this and get a new printer?
