Hp smart tank ink, made of normal premium dye any difference to deskjet ink?

Been running one of these Canon G4010 machines at a small office. Its a POS cheap machine but it runs cheaper than toner for a machine of its class a lot cheaper 7K prints on a tank!. It going for its second year doing about 400 a month and the spare ink supplied in the box is still sealed. Would be good to know what runs on these refillable ink tanks.
