    M4555 MFP Hard Drive

I'm installing a new formatter for a Laserjet M4555 MFP. I was thinking In would also replace the hard drive. Does anyone know (the manual doesn't make it clear), can I just use any HD? Can I put an SSD in instead of a HD that was NOT made by HP?

I've used Seagate 320gb HDD's in these before, after install I do the secure erase (which takes a pretty long time) and loaded the FW and haven't had any issues. I don't know if there's another way to do it but that's always worked for me. Never installed a SSD so I don't know about that.

I forgot to follow up on this.

I ended up replacing the formatter along with the HDD, using a normal 250gb SSD purchased on Amazon instead of an HP SSD.

I replaced just the formatter first, got a message to update firmware, stuck in the ssd, got some new errors, and used the procedures described here:

In the end, it all worked.
