Hp Mopier 240 with a HP 320 Scanner

Help, I am working on a HP 320 scanner that will not Initialize. I found that that the USB cable from the printer was un hooked at the scanner. So connected the cable turn on the scanner and printer, but the scanner hangs up when intilizing either when gets to step 2 or 3 it will gewt pass those points. Any insight will be helpful.

the mio card which is in the printer connecting the scanner has bad contacts or failed
