    HP LJ5, main drive assembly

So, I talked the customer out of fixing this one. It looked like too much work for an old printer.

It needs a fuser and the main drive assembly. The main drive reminds me of the HP LJ4250 swing arm. Is it that bad? Anyone replaced one of these?

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Working on this machine is a nightmare.

It looked like part #2 during factory assembly. Like breaking down, then building a printer from parts.

I quoted a minimum of two hours. I'm guessing much more. Thanks Paul. =^..^=

        Hi BlackCat

Not a bad repair at all. Remove left cover = Easy
Remove Formater + Cage = Easy
Remove Main Drive = Easy (4 screws)
        Remove Drive Assembly (part shown)

        Done

Part costs about $17, parts now - Refurb

Wish the new ones were that easy. Compare replacing a swing plate for a 42xx series versus this machine. Trust me this one is much, much easier. It's probably a 30 min fix. Coincidently, if you replace the 2 most worn gears, RF5-0350 and RS5-0237 the cost would be around $5 or $6. Hardest part is the retaining clip. The rest is gravy.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

            Alas! It's too late.
But I'll remember for the next time. =^..^=
