Re: LJ4050 41.3 Unexpected paper size
Unfortunately no good news. Changed paper size board and entire pfu and no luck. Customer upgrading so machine will probably be scrapped out. I hate losing battles.

Re: LJ4050 41.3 Unexpected paper size
Confirm that. I found that the metal actuator will magnetize if it makes direct contact with the coil. It has to have some kind of a pad. =^..^=Leave a comment:

Re: LJ4050 41.3 Unexpected paper size
You have to put electrical tape on the solenoid or it will not work correctly; just get the whole feed assembly their cheapLeave a comment:

Re: LJ4050 41.3 Unexpected paper size
So when I replaced the paper size board I had actually taken it from the customers 2nd machine. Turns out that guy was having the same message. Took both machines apart and cleaned adhesive from solenoid plate. No good. Now I'm gonna order a new paper size board and start over.Leave a comment:

Thanks. Thats the job I've done only a couple times. Spend most time on copiers. I know its easy enough. I'll give it a shot later this week.Leave a comment:

Re: LJ4050 41.3 Unexpected paper size
Only 10 minutes when you know where you're going. I did a 4100 last week, so it's fresh in my head.
Remove cartridge
rear fuser door,
right side rear cover (over NIC)
top cover (4 screws, laser shutter un-clipped from door)
NIC box/cage assy (2 screws), slides out
remaining right and left covers
Two 4" long black shoulder screws at front left and front right
Two machine screws from the area behind NIC box, and one connector ~14 pins
One screw at left side rear
Lift engine off cassette base
metal plate off top of feed assy
feed assy lifts right out into your hand. Ta Da! =^..^=Leave a comment:

380k on printer. I would guess pads. Solenoids dont go often. Is that easy to get to. I've only taken this to the frame a couple times.Leave a comment:

Re: LJ4050 41.3 Unexpected paper size
... hmm. Sounds like the tray #2 pickup solenoid is either magnetized, or the sound damping pad had gone sticky. The test is to press down the actuator hard, then release. The actuator should return immediately. If there is any delay you've found the problem. There are several ways to fix.
If magnetized the solenoid will have to be replaced.
If the foam pad is sticky, clean off the old pad and adhesive. Punch an 8mm disk of rubber (I have an old bicycle inner tube for the purpose), and secure it with superglue. =^..^=Leave a comment:

Re: LJ4050 41.3 Unexpected paper size
I replaced that board. No luck. It will feed 2 or 3 sheets thru then give the message, and shoot a blank. If I press go it will start again and do the same. Tray 2 loaded with paper. Tray 1 works fineLeave a comment:

Re: LJ4050 41.3 Unexpected paper size
Check these first:
"Load paper tray #1" when letter sized images are sent. In tray #2 paper length linkage gets stuck, indicating paper size "Plain Exec". Free up paper length linkage in tray #2.
"13.1.00 PAPER JAM" message. Paper is present in tray #2, yet all paper attempts to feed from empty tray #1. Combination of two problems: tray #2 set to custom paper size on side of tray, and paper empty sensor is missing from tray #1 (detecting non-existent paper). Set paper size on tray #2 to Std paper sizes. Install PE senor flag on tray #1.
I've also seen those push switches fail on the paper size PWB.

Replaced feed and sep. Switched tray. Replaced feed size board rg5-2673. Could I have a problem with the paper feed unit? TIATags: None
