    HP Formatter Boards

We have formatter issues with HP4730s. We keep replacing the boards and have built up a stock of faulty units. Does anyone know of companies in UK or Europe that specialize in the repair of formatter boards or copier/printer board repair in general.

The good ol' oven tricks doesn't work for this one? I used it for the HP-3005 series with great success.

That is just what I was going to suggest too, you beat me to it. Finally something as a former printer tech I could help out with. Oh well, that's me, a day late and a buck short...

Justabeshoor, what IS a Formatter Board, a mate of mine repairs HP gadgets and blames the 'Formatter Boards' constantly but cannot explain to me just what they are - in the Copier World PCBs are RAM, DIMM, IMAGE, SYSTEM, Main etc. - just curious, thanks.

Phew.... Glad you asked that question. I never dared to ask myself, was wondering all the time and thought it was only me being that uneducated in technical matters. "Formatter Board"? Has that something to do with formatting something?

In copiers it is called the controller board. Has the memory, hard drive, network interface, parrallel and serial ports etc..

Yes, I understand what it is and what it does. But why "Formatter"?

Because it sounds more technical than thingamajig.

Thanks for the assist guys, Thingamajig actually makes more sense than FORMATTER - All right lets break it down a bit....FORM :- something you fill in. MAT :- something you stand on. TER :- hmmm? MATTER :- it doesn't!

Ok Paul, you're the ex printer Guru with all the manuals, how about some input, we neeeed to knowww.
