    Lexmark XM5263

I have twice now in the last few months tried to update the firmware on these things and both times I have lost all address and SMTP information. I have logged on to the machines webpage and downloaded the required files and both times the machines would not accept the files and all the information had to be manually installed on to the machines. The first clue is after the update, the machine will say 'unresponsive cartridge' and the only way to cure this is to degrade the firmware to the previous update by updating using that file. The firmware used was the one on the web page at the time of the upgrade. Is anyone else having this issue? I have tried calling Lexmark but with my hearing I have a real issue understanding what is being said on their end.
I just checked the readme file for the firmware loaded today and found this. I may have answered my own question.
Downgrading firmware from newer major firmware ECs to older major firmware ECs will result in the loss of Apps, Security Features, and Settings

But the question remains, why is the new firmware giving the 'unresponsive cartridge' error?

We have seen the loss of settings and apps too.

If firmware is really old you might try to update it to a newer version THEN to the newest version. Unlike Sharp that keeps all the firmware updates available for download Lexmark only keeps the newest one availalve online. So if you don't keep all the old fimrware versions in house it will be hard to find them.

As for the toner error we have not seen that one. After a fimrware update we have seen "Unsupported cartridge" if the cartridge is old, like it has the old Lexmark logo on it. I think this is a result of Lexmark trying to prevent the use generic toner use. We see it even though we use only Lexmark OEM toners but some people run so little they may have a toner in the machine that is years old.

As far as cloning a machine through the web interface we are pretty succesful at that. The only thing we don't see carry over is the smtp password but that is understandable.

Honestly, I think I've only updated the firmware from the web interface once or twice ever, and it's usually because the machine was unresponsive from the panel, but I could still get into the web interface. I've never had a firmware update from USB fail (if the machines is responsive). =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
