Make sure it is set to auto receive, the phone line from the wall is plugged into the line jack on the machine, not the handset, "tel" , or "ext" jack. Make sure the line from the wall goes directly to the machine, not to an answering machine or credit card machine or computer first. Just some basic stuff to check first. If all that is ok, plug a known working macine into that phone line and see what happens. Good Luck.

We get for status: NG 53 - which i think is Error 53 not the right telephone number but it is the right number.

This machine crosses to Toshiba TF 631. According to Toshiba service manual... code 53- "The password did not match in a relay or mailbox transmission, and the transmission ended in a failure. Remedy- Confirm that both parties are using the same system password and that both units are compatible. Then, ask the remote party to transmit again." Hope that helps.
