    OKIDATA and you

My employer is looking to pick up another brand for smaller MFP's/printers and Okidata seems to be the likely addition to our lineup. For the first time (ever?), the techs are being asked our opinions of what we should carry. I thought I'd pick you guys's brains about smaller OKI's. We've got some of the old Oki faxes still out in the field and they seem to be almost indestructible but those are 10+ years old. Brands change and quality fluctuates, how are they lately.

So yeah, Okidata small machines. Good, bad? Pros, cons? Hows their support, parts readily available? Any current models we should avoid?

Honestly, I'm just shocked the powers that be are asking service technicians there opinions on models to carry.

We currently carry Kyocera and Konica Minolta and to be honest, I can't imagine anything being worse than a c35/c3350.......

    Re: OKIDATA and you

It's been a few years since I've worked Oki's but here are my impressions:

Typically quality is very good, and it can handle a wide variety of media. And expensive to operate. Parts are often available as assemblies. Some parts are not listed in the parts manuals at all. I'm not sure how you're supposed to get those parts. An interesting quirk of Oki's chipped AIO units and toner cartridges: If the enduser changes the cartridge while the machine still reads 10%, that supply counter will not be reset. So the new cartridge will only consume 10% before calling for a replacement, and won't use the rest. You must wait until it says "Replace ... " before replacing supplies. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Good to know about the chips, I see that on KM boxes sometimes where the counters are out of sync.

BC is right about the parts and cost to operate. There were a bunch of tweaks to do to maximize cpc and it's still not competitive. Color quality is great and media handling is awesome, but their not service friendly when it comes to dis assembly and removal of things like PCB's. I even turned down a free trade in from the boss................................
