ricoh mp2550 and mp 2851 copy quality problem

Been working with this copier for a while and they seem to get light over a period of time. Somewhere between 25k or more. i tried adjustment through service mode makes just a little improvement. Even if you use ricoh toner and all ricoh parts seems to do same thing. Everything looks good then starts to fade out over time. They are not bad copies but a little on the light side. thanks for any help on this

If it copies only and not printing, clean the dust off the mirrors and lens. As dust builds up, the white reference scan when the machine powers up will shift. Too much dust and the white looks like light gray. The process control compensates by shifting the gray scale. Eventually black becomes dark gray. Also, if the machine defaults to original type as TEXT/PHOTO, change it to TEXT. Gives you higher contrast since it does not have to try to produce the entire gray scale as it will with a photo.

Copierman: it is a know issue, slimslob is right, but sometimes it is not enough to just clean the optics.
Do you use the pcu 1027 ass'y cartridges?

you might try and use the refurbished PCU, i think it will resolve the issue.
