Why would the printer not recognize a toner cartidge? It is a black toner cartridge. Also as a side-note, if this problem occured in the copier version, the Ricoh Aficio MPC3500/4500, would the solution to fix the problem be the same? Any help appreciated, thank you.

Is the Toner Cartridge Ricoh brand or some refill off brand? They are supposed to have a chip on them and can only fit in their unique slot. Never heard of one not recognizing the toner.

It is ricoh brand took chip from old cartridge and put on new cartridge; did not work. customer said they've had problems with toner cartridges from vendor where they order before.

The RF id chip on the toner bottle contains information of remaining toner in bottle and bottle serial number. So if you re-use the chip the printer will say that the toner i empty or replace toner

from what i've had on the copier side to the machine, it could be a fauty toner pump. On the MPC 5000 and i think the 4500s we've had issues with toner pumps failing early.
