    External Keyboard and C5501

We have a customer that has a C5501 and they want an external keyboard on the device. They need this so it is easier to type than using the qwerty keyboard. However, when it is plugged up it gives "Incompatible USB Device". On the 02 models (4502, 5502) there is a service mode (SP-50-75) that needs to be turned on for External Keyboard but this is not there for the 01 models.

    Any suggestions?

Try changing SP Mode 5844-100 from 1 to 0 then rebooting, this should remove the message.

Will this enable the keyboard? Well I would rather the keyboard work than the message to go away.

5844-100 only removes the message. I'll post again if I find any additional info regarding external keyboards.

IMO Incompatable USB device usually means just that.

Besides theres no external Keyboard Option in the manual or on Ricohs Webpages for the MPC5501.

If only everything was that simple.

Unfortunately you will still get this message even if you have a compatible USB device connected. (MIFARE/HID readers etc.)

The ability to support the external keyboard will depend on what SDK is installed on the device. Currently, I beleive the latest versions of embedded Ecopy and Globalscan NX Reform PDC, AutoStore v5 support the use of external keyboards. Also it's not possible to use a generic keyboard, there are 4 different types available and they are product specific.
