Just FYI...Scanning to PC via USB cable was never an option on that model.
Network scanning ONLY.


This is not correct. The opposite is actually true
The HDD is an option this model and is NOT required for printing or scanning to email or folder. It IS necessary for scanning to SD card / memory device.
I've removed several from re-sale boxes where the user does not want/ need the added functionality, and the spare HDD's come in handy.
It sounds to me like the poster was primarily scanning to the USB device and that the HDD has failed, although I would typically expect there to be at least an error message flashing in the corner of the screen to indicate a problem

Hi there, will she still scan to the coud if i remove the HDD? My HDD on this Ricoh is toast because it gives me that "adress book failure" message. Thanks if you can help.

As stated..... the HDD is not required on this model for scanning to folder or email.
You'll have to re-enter destinations etc., once it's disconnected.
