    MPC 3503

Getting Yellow dev and toner splodges on paper even while doing b/w copy, changed overdue life Y dev and pcu still the same, stripped ITB and swapped transfer rollers Y for K still the same fault is intermittent . All colleagues suggest new Y dev unit again . Anyone had this? Unfortunately was unable to show attachment as this forum would not allow pic to download.

Is the PTR contaminated with yellow dev and toner? Technically the colour PCDU's shouldn't even be turning when you do a B & W copy, the toner must be coming from somewhere else.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

You would need to give the machine a good vac out and clean if you can see yellow toner around pcu/dev area and transfer. If ptr roller is yellow replace it I would fit new dev assy make sure it's not used and setup quite a common problem

It could also be the ITB cleaner.

    Re: MPC 3503

I have seen this several times and have posted about it in the past.

Your yellow is right down the middle of the page and includes both yellow developer and toner?

The metal roller on the ITB unit to the left of the yellow transfer roller is either seized up or bound up as to be difficult to turn. This causes the ITB belt to come into contact with the top of the yellow unit and drag not only toner out, but developer.

If this is the case, take the ITB belt off, remove the metal roller out and take the bushings off (they are small). Clean them, re-lube, put it all back together and it should run like a champ.

What count does the machine have? These metis machine usually run very clean unless you are using compatible toner?

That's very interesting...good to know. How do you tell if its Developer or toner on the page?

The toner for yellow is very bright and it will be fused to the page.

When yellow developer is involved, it isn't as bright and the color shade is not consistent across the page (almost looks like someone blotted it with a brush). It will also not be fused very well to the page and you should be able to rub it off. You can check the rubbed off parts with a magnetic screwdriver to see if you get a reaction from it. If you do, its developer. If you don't, its toner.

Another way to check this is to look at the tops of the other PCDU's. Yellow will be dragged across the top of them.
