Most likely the inverter. You can check the output with a multi-meter.
If the copier works, in most cases the LCD backlight burns out. Replace the CCFL lamp is an inexpensive option (220mm x 2mm). You will need to remove the LCD board and disassemble it. Ricoh uses a warm light CCFL lamp, you will probably get a cold light CCFL lamp, works anyway .
If you have an old Mpc4500 or Mpc2500 around, you can use the panel and the panel control board, done this many times and it works...

I have solved this issue by replacing LCD this morning. The LCD had been backordered since Oct. 8th & finally arrived yesterday. I had temporary used MP8001 panel to make the M/C work at least & the customer was generous enough to live with it. The customer seems to prefer MP8001 panel instead of MP6000 because MP6000 is B/W screen VS MP8001 is color screen.
FIXED - with some patience and LM085YB1T01
$20.94 total cost: CCFL warehouse
Thanks for all who chimed in. May look a little different (cold vs warm lamp as zoor noted) but works for me. Lamp was burnt to the point of breakage.
Hold back on the caffeine when playing with this thing...
