Re: Canon IR Advance washed out copies on 1 side when duplexing

I also don't normally work on Canon brand but many MFPs have different settings for second side transfer voltages. Look for this settings in service manual and try to increase value if possible. Test what will happen if you select thick paper instead of plain?

Extremely damp paper will cause this type of problem. First pass thru is washed out, second pass thru is good because paper dried out during the fusing process during the first pass.

This looks like a drum issue, I would try another drum.

What is the condition of your transfer roller? Also take a look at the attached screenshot. It describes a similar issue to yours.

Re: Canon IR Advance washed out copies on 1 side when duplexing

I went back to my customer today to try some of the other suggestions to fix this copier. I also jammed it so that I could see if the issue was the drum, transfer or fixing. The image on the drum for the lighter washed out side was dark and clean on the drum and the image on the paper still looked washed out. It also was washed out before going thru the fuser also which made me pay more attention to the transfer area. I ended up taking the transfer roller out and realized that the spring on the left side was bent and not properly set, even though it would push in & out smoothly just as the right end did. The spring is behind the area that’s circled in green in the pic I included & that the pen is pointing to.
So basically once I put the transfer roller back in with the spring set properly BAM 💥 gorgeous copies!! I was also able to complete the graduation adjustment with no issues this time and now the prints and copies look amazing.
Thanks so much for all the ideas and help.
