Ricoh moved on to a new LED system for writing on the drums. These machines can do few 100ks on them but I have experienced early drum failures couple of times. Especially in environments where print density is darker......

    SP5210 were a different beast...
If it works, don't touch it.

So to follow up on this, what do you mean by "SP5210 were a different beast", is that a good thing or a bad thing? The LED system seems to be a good thing.

    SP5210 were a workhorse. I had several at 500k + and 1-2 that reached a million.

LED use power less but If you don't have access to good prices on the drum units, they're not worth it

Truth. Not my favorite. The consumables are very difficult to change (Fuser, pcu, dev unit) and they do not last anywhere near their rated life. And the controller board requires a contortionist to remove when it fails as it's a Ricoh part shoe horned into the Kyocera frame.

    This is good to know.

What Kyo model consumables do you use on this Ricoh MP 501? and are they a stright swap or do they need a mod etc?

Late to the party on this one.

In short, I am not a fan. You can read on if you want to see specifics.

Fusers do not reach yield at all. Not even close in most cases.
PCU's are not a lot better.
Machine overall is noisy and a lot of times, that noise is either from the PCU or the fuser. The good news is the machine has a "silent mode" that drops the speed and the noise. Over half my machines are in silent mode.
Pray you never have to change a right rail because the paper won't lift. It isn't fun at all.
