Biden's 'Border Czar' Abruptly Announces She Is Stepping Down as Crisis Rages
Roberta Jacobson, a former U.S. ambassador to Mexico, is stepping down this month as the Biden administration’s border envoy amid what has devolved into tragic a humanitarian crisis.
The New York Times reported Jacobson will leave her post as “border czar” on the National Security Council, having only been in that position since January.
“Ms. Jacobson said that her appointment as a special assistant to the president and as the border coordinator in the White House was always intended to last for only about 100 days — a period that will expire at the end of April, when she intends to leave government,” The Times reported.
Jacobson offered a brief statement about her decision to leave the post and her career in government as the border crisis worsens.
“They continue to drive toward the architecture that the president has laid out: an immigration system that is humane, orderly and safe,” she stated. “I leave optimistically. The policy direction is so clearly right for our country.”
Jacobson also offered comment on Vice President Kamala Harris being announced as the administration’s point woman on the border.
“I briefed and worked in support of the vice president’s leadership on this issue,” she said. “Nobody could be more delighted to see the vice president take on that role. It didn’t have anything to do with my decision.”
White House Website Caught Posting Link to Biden Campaign Donations Page
The White House was caught directing Americans to President Joe Biden’s campaign website from a fact sheet for the president’s spending plan, but it later claimed the page was linked “in error” after it was pointed out.
The link was hidden deep in the body of the 25-page document outlining Biden’s $2 trillion American Jobs Plan, according to Fox News.
“People of color and low-income people are more likely to live in areas most vulnerable to flooding and other climate change-related weather events,” the document read, with a link to the campaign website included on the words “more likely.”
The link directed people to the “clean energy” section of Biden’s website, which explains how his plan will help “people of color.”
When a user followed the link, a popup along the bottom of the screen would prompt him or her to make a donation to Biden’s campaign.
Indiana Rep. Victoria Spartz pointed out the mistake in a Thursday post on Twitter.
“Just what the American people want… to be driven to a campaign donation page from @POTUS Biden’s official @WhiteHouse website,” the Republican tweeted along with a video showcasing the mistake.

Biden Nominee Used False Claims About Infamous Waco Siege to Push Gun Control
The gun-control activist who President Joe Biden nominated to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) claimed last year that members of the Branch Davidian sect shot down two helicopters during a standoff with federal agents in Waco, Texas, in 1993.
David Chipman, the nominee, posted the comments as part of a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” event. He also called for tighter gun control measures, including restricting gun sales only to licensed gun stores and a ban on the manufacture and sale of so-called assault rifles.
Biden announced Chipman’s nomination on Thursday during an event where he laid out a series of executive actions aimed at reducing gun violence.
Chipman currently serves as a senior policy adviser to former Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was nearly killed after being shot by a gunman at a campaign event in 2011. CNN described Chipman on Wednesday as a “fierce advocate for gun control.”
Chipman, who posted a photograph on the Reddit thread confirming his identity, commented on the Waco siege in response to a question from a participant who asked whether any crimes have been committed with .50 caliber Barrett rifles, which can be accurate up to thousands of feet from their target.
“At Waco, cult members used 2 .50 caliber Barretts to shoot down two Texas Air National Guard helicopters. Point, it is true we are fortunate they are not used in crime more often. The victims of drug lords in Mexico are not so lucky. America plays a role in fueling the violence south of the border,” Chipman wrote.
While the Branch Davidians did reportedly shoot at and damage a trio of helicopters that were flown over their compound, none were shot down, and no federal agents were injured.
“Although all of the three helicopters sustained damage from weapons fire, none of the National Guard crews or ATF aboard were injured,” reads a House report of an investigation into the siege that was released on Aug. 2, 1996.
Four ATF agents and 82 Branch Davidians died during a 51-day standoff, which ended when the religious group’s compound was burned to the ground after an FBI team tried to rescue children inside the building.
Twenty-five children died in the compound.
The House report said that federal agents used the helicopters in hopes of distracting Branch Davidian members while a rescue team could gain entry to the compound.
The report said that the helicopters flew within 350 feet of the building.
Chipman, a former ATF special agent, called for other stringent restrictions on gun purchases in the AMA thread, while acknowledging that he carries a concealed firearm himself.
In one post, Chipman said, “I believe all gun sales should be limited to licensed gun stores where a background check and paperwork is required.”
He also said he supports a ban on production and sales of assault rifles.
“It has been estimated that there are around 15 million assault rifles currently in circulation. I believe we should ban the future production and sale to civilians and afford current owners of these firearms the ability to license these particularly guns with ATF under the National Firearms Act,” he wrote.
While Chipman supports those restrictions, he said that he sometimes carries a concealed firearm.
“For the general public, seeing a gun out in public is a little frightening. To me, living in fear is a harm that we should avoid. When I carry I make sure it’s concealed. I’m not trying to make some statement.”
Chipman could not be reached for comment. The Giffords organization did not respond to a request seeking comment.
This happened during Bill Clinton's watch.
