    Re: Green Jobs

Clean energy accounted for more than two-thirds of the new US electrical generating capacity added during the first six months of 2022, according to data recently released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Wind (5,722 megawatts) and solar (3,895 MW) provided 67.01% of the 14,352 MW in utility-scale (that is, greater than 1 MW) capacity that came online during the first half of 2022.

Additional capacity was provided by geothermal (26 MW), hydropower (7 MW), and biomass (2 MW). The balance came from natural gas (4,695 MW) and oil (5 MW). No new capacity was reported for 2022 from either nuclear power or coal.

This brings clean energy’s share of total US available installed generating capacity up to 26.74%. To put that in perspective, five years ago, clean energy’s share was 19.7%. Ten years ago, it was 14.76%.

FERC reports that there may be as much as 192,507 MW of new solar capacity on the way, with 66,315 MW classified as “high-probability” additions and no offsetting “retirements.”

The “high-probability” additions alone would nearly double utility-scale solar’s current installed capacity of 74,530 MW, while successful completion of all expected projects would nearly quadruple it.

Notably, FERC’s forecast predates President Joe Biden signing into law the Inflation Reduction Act, and that will likely ramp up solar growth even more.

In addition, new wind capacity by June 2025 could total 70,393 MW, with 17,383 MW being “high probability” and only 158 MW of retirements expected. Thus, installed wind capacity could grow by at least 12%.

“High-probability” generation capacity additions for utility-scale solar and wind combined, minus anticipated retirements, reflect a projected net increase of 83,540 MW over the next three years, or over 2,300 MW per month. That figure does not include new distributed, small-scale solar capacity or additions by hydropower, geothermal, and biomass.

Coke Canada is testing its very first EV cargo delivery vans in a new pilot in the Greater Montreal Area. The bottling manufacturer buys the famous Coca-Cola syrup, enhances it, and packages them while distributing it to its 16,000 customers.

The Canadian bottling company will use Ford’s E-Transit, which has been a hit so far for the legacy automaker. In fact, Ford’s July sales show the E-Transit controlling 95% of the electric van market.

The move comes as many corporations promise a carbon-neutral future. In fact, Coca-Cola Canada has taken several steps already towards a cleaner future.

For one thing, the bottling company plans to reduce the carbon footprint of each drink by 25%. So far, Coke Canada has reduced its carbon footprint by 21% since 2010.

Coke Canada also reached 100% water replenishment in 2019, meaning the company gives back the same amount of water they use for operations.

With the help of Ford’s E-Transit, Coke Canada looks to make good on its commitments. The new pilot program includes more than just the EV delivery vans.

It's pretty ironic that a bottling company that sells carbonated drinks is at the same time trying to reduce its "carbon footprint". What's next, carbon-neutral Coke?

Were they not be sued for deceptive advertising? It's estimated that they are responsible for 2.9 BILLION tons of plastic pollution per year...for many years.

Years ago beverage companies used to easily recycled cardboard/pasteboard cartons to put their six packs in. Those cartons were easily recycled along with all other paper products. Also before the introduction of the "No Deposit. No Return" bottles were used to return the empty bottles to a reseller. The cartons, unless overly stained or damaged, were actually reused by the bottling companies. The plastic rings they use now are a hazard to fish, wildlife and domestic animals. Some iced teas bottlers still use recyclable cartons.

Intersect Power is seeking to build a sprawling 1,000-MW solar-plus-storage project in eastern Arizona — one of several such projects under construction in the U.S.

Why it matters: The 1 GW project is huge — nearly double the capacity of the biggest operating solar farm in the U.S.

What's happening: The Bureau of Land Management yesterday held an information session on the proposed Hopper Renewable Project.

Intersect Power is seeking a variance to build the solar facility on federal land.
The project would span more than 9,500 acres, or about 14 square miles, in the San Simon Valley, roughly 130 miles northeast of Tucson.
Once complete, it would interconnect with Tucson Electric Power or the Arizona Electric Power Cooperative

According to recent reports, Lucid's Arizona site will expand to about three times its current size. Currently, Lucid's first factory sits on some 600 acres of land in Pinal County. However, news broke this week that the country bought another 1,400 acres.

First Solar, the largest solar panel manufacturer in the U.S., said Tuesday that it will build a new panel factory in the U.S.
CEO Mark Widmar told CNBC the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act was the key catalyst that prompted the company to choose the U.S. for its new facility.

..., yes that is the objective. From bottling, packaging, operations, recycling and transportation
