I think these buggy image is part of the legacy firmware wich ist "hosted" in the controller board, that's why swapping the panel won't change...

update the firmware of the mf, and in particular go in panel menu, and put "panel start-up mode" from quick to normal, and try to load a latest...

Had plenty of trouble with compatible toner. In all the cases I had the machine always over toned. Have not seen it causing depleted developer.
