DNS settings sometimes don't matter in this case. Go to Utility>Settings>Administrator>Network Settings>SMB settings>Client Settings and change to NTLM V1/V2 or V1/V2 on older machines. This setting allows scan to SMB to be set up with a host name instead of an IP address. The factory default is only V1.

NT LAN Manager (NTLM) is a suite of Microsoft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft) security protocols that provides authentication, integrity, and confidentiality (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIA_criteria) to users.
Ntlm is just the level of security that is used for smb. Dns is what takes a name and converts it to an IP address. Without the correct dns info ntlm will still not get you to the destination.

Set the copiers dns to the gateway for option 1 and to 8.8.8.8 for the second option and see if that corrects the isssue.

I'm in my 27th year servicing Minolta/KonicaMinolta copiers and am fully aware what DNS is and how it works. My post was a result of my experience in the field of actual observations of this exact problem. The DNS can be set EXACTLY as it is supposed to be and the MFP still will not scan to SMB using a hostname while it will work fine with an IP address on SOME NETWORKS. We've made the V1/V2 setting change numerous times to fix the issue the OP mentioned.

Google DNS 8.8.8.8 would only help in resolving hostnames on the internet outside of the internal lan.

Clear out the network settings, put the MFP in DHCP and let it pull all info...If you still can't resolve the hostname from the copier then it is still going to be a DNS issue..It may be a firewall blocking DNS, or a VLAN configuration, but I stick to DNS, DNS, DNS. Emujo

I've seen it where the Hostname was too long.
